St. Louis Shakespeare is pleased to announce
its 2008-09 season:

Mary Zimmerman's THE ODYSSEY

July 25 - August 3, 2008
Directed by Artistic Director Donna Northcott

THE ODYSSEY:  Odysseus, King of Ithaca and his men long to return home after their victory in the 10-year war against Troy.  Odysseus' journey home, however, is delayed by gods and monsters as he tries to reach his beloved wife, Penelope, and son, Telemachus.  After his long absence, it is presumed that Odysseus is dead, and many princes have come to win Penelope as their bride - along with the castle and lands owned by Odysseus. A sumptuous adventure tale of love and wit overcoming the challenges of gods and monsters.

KING LEAR

August 15 - 24, 2008
Directed by Associate Artistic Director Milton Zoth

KING LEAR:  When England's aging King Lear renounces his throne to divide his kingdom among his three daughters, treachery, madness and murder soon follow. After banishing Cordelia, his most loyal daughter, Lear is betrayed and cast out by her elder sisters Regan and Goneril. Meanwhile, evil brews at the Gloucester castle as Edgar falls victim to his brother's deception.  Can a man undo his wrongs? Or will the wheels of fate crush all in its way?

ROMEO & JULIET

November 14-23, 2008

ROMEO & JULIET:  They love each other passionately as only teenagers can - while their families, addicted to hatred, embrace a culture of endless violence.  To be united with her Romeo, Juliet dares to face the terrors of the tomb - but not even the best of plans can change the inevitable course of disaster.

EDWARD III

Spring, 2009

EDWARD III:  The Midwest premiere of a "new" Shakespeare play!  The Reign of King Edward the Third concerns two campaigns of the 14th-century English king. One is military, conducted against France to assert Edward's claim to its throne; the other is amorous, conducted against the virtue of the Countess of Salisbury, whose husband is a loyal subject.  Be the first one on your block to see this newly discovered gem!
